Come Get 'Yer Debate On!!

If you think that debating is a boring yawnfest of nerdy trust-fund frat boys in matching argyle sweaters bantering about who-gives-a-sh**, then you NEED to come to this training!!

Debating is a fun, and usually hilarious, way to practice your impromptu speaking and on-your-feet thinking skills.  And, as a bonus, gives you a chance to impress your peers with your wit and charisma!

This session will start with "the rules", offer a few tips about strategy, and a couple of quick war stories from my own JCI debating experiences to help convince you that its okay if you don't think you can do this - you CAN!  Then, you'll see a demonstration debate, and then its your turn - the best way to LEARN debating is to DO IT!

No need to study up on current affairs or economic theory to be prepared for this - the topics will likely centre around things like comic book heroes, the battle of the sexes, and alcoholic beverages.  All you need to do is pack a little bit of courage, some wit and your personality, and you will be a star debater in no time!!

Matt Hutcheon is a Past National President of JCI Canada, Senator ans Past International Vice President for JCI assigned to Europe. Matt is the President of Vist Enterprises, a consulting business offering services related to accounting, fiance ans tax for small and medium-sized enterprises and individuals. Matt is also the co-author of Trucker Management - Driving Your Small Business to Success.

Jackie WardJCI 101

So…. you’re a brand new member and have decided to jump right in and attend a regional conference! Or you’ve been around for awhile but want to know more about why we do the things we do… or maybe you’re a seasoned member who just wants to sit in the back of the room, recovering from Friday night’s hospitality suite, heckling presenters…. Whatever the reason, JCI 101 intends to give you a glimpse into the interesting background of this organization and the direction in which we are headed.

We’ll uncover the meaning of all those crazy acronyms (like does your LOM have a CBP they can forward to the EVP, and does it include SCAW??), and we’ll make sure you know about all of the opportunities available to you as a member, as well as what happens beyond your chapter and region. We’ll talk about how JCI differs from other organizations, and what you can achieve by being a member. The JCI Mission and Vision have had some recent changes and we will discuss what those are. We will also touch on why you should never leave a trophy unattended, why one unit has been carting around a toilet seat for decades, why one chapter owns Royal Guard Busby’s presented by the Queen of England, and all sorts of other great stories and official/unofficial JCI protocol. Of course there will be time for any questions you may have – hope to see you there!

JCI Survivorsurvivor

Get up, get out and stretch your legs to seek some of the beautiful Okanagan weather, and to discover the City of Vernon and see some of what we have to offer.

This is a great team building exercise (and yet is it exercise!) as well as a mixture of JCI Chapter members. This is a walking scavenger hunt that will take approximately an hour and 15 minutes, you must stay with the team to participate.

So join Tehara and Sandra and put on your walking shoes and get ready to have some fun – Survivor style!
